Tcha Limberger
Tcha Limberger was born into a Belgian Gypsy family of musicians. His grandfather was a violinist and his father a guitarist. He started playing in his father’s band, Orchestra De Piottos, and later became the rhythm guitarist of the band Waso. Both the Orchestra De Piottos and Waso are legendary Gypsy jazz bands in Europe.
When he was seventeen, he started playing violin, inspired by stories of his grandfather, and recordings from Hungarian Toki Horvat. He split with the Orchestra De Piotto’s, and began a trio with his father Vivi and his uncle Bisque Limberger. A year later, they started a band named "Romani" with Koen de Cauter and two of his sons Dajo, Viv.
Following a tour in Budapest, Tcha decided to return there again to learn the Gypsy music of Budapest. He first learned Hungarian, and when he was twenty-three, he returned to Budapest and studied for eighteen months with Horvat Bela.
Tcha Limberger has toured the world playing with top Gypsy musicians. Recently, he’s toured extensively with Dutch Gypsy guitarist Lollo Meier and will be playing with Lollo at the San Francisco/Mill Valley DjangoFest.
