Patrick Saussois Fundraiser
I have a bit sadness to report in that our dear friend and colleague
Patrick Sassois has suffered a stroke and is in a difficult way. Our
prayers and hopes go out to him.
Patrick suffered a stroke earlier this year and emerged in a full paralysis-state called the “Locked-in Syndrome”. Funds raised will be presented to Patrick’s wife Lodi. Patrick shared our WICA stage in 2003 with Pearl Django and in 2005 with his own band Alma Sinti. He has been a fixture on the Paris guitar scene since the 1970’s and is renowned for his great skills and his exceptional musical taste. During his visit to DFNW in 2003, he was fondly referred to by fellow Gypsy jazz guitarist Angelo Debarre and Serge Camps as the “Professor”. All who met Patrick during his visits to Whidbey Island remember him as an extremely warm, enthusiastic, and talented player who shared his abundant knowledge and stories about Gypsy jazz with everyone. Patrick’s wife Lodi, who is a talented painter in her own right, helped founded Djaz Records with Patrick, a small company that put out many CDs of Gypsy jazz and French mainstream jazz. This includes records by Dorado and Tchavolo Schmitt , Koen De Kauter, Raphael Fays, Ninine Garcia, Am Ketenes and many more they supported. While Patrick’s medical needs are being cared for, the funds will help Lodi with other financial concerns. Patrick Saussoir has given much to us at DFNW and WICA; we are pleased to be able to give back to him during this time of need.
If you would like to make a contribution to the fund created to help cover his medical costs, you can donate directly to his family at the following Paypal account: helppatrick@gmail.com
