Robin Nolan, one of the world’s best-known and most admired Gypsy jazz guitarists, has been lauded for his musical genius and sensibilities by the late George Harrison, Willie Nelson, and Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman.
He is legendary in the Django Reinhardt world and has played with every major Gypsy Jazz artist and at every major Gypsy Jazz festival in the world.
Robin’s travels have taken him from Europe and Asia to North America, the Middle East, and Australia. Ever the ambassador for Gypsy Jazz, Robin and his trio were selected to perform in China in 2008. He is a mainstay at Djangofests worldwide, with this year’s performance marking the trio’s second performance in Crested Butte.
While his inspiration lies in Gypsy Jazz, Latin and Hot Club de France, Robin has a decidedly contemporary feel and fires up his music with his own expressive "je ne sais quoi." Backed by his trio’s hypnotic rhythms, his rippling melodic ideas and solos set him apart from his contemporaries. Whether playing jazz standards, original compositions, or a nod at rock and pop musicians, Robin always delights his audiences with a show of special splendor and style.
Since forming his first trio in 1992, Robin has released more than a dozen albums including his latest live CD, Tainted Love. Robin’s original composition, Mediterranean Blues was featured in the MGM major motion picture film, Autumn in New York, starring Richard Gere and Winona Ryder.
In addition to his busy schedule as a performer, Robin is also known as a passionate instructor. He has released some of the most important Gypsy Jazz instructional books, CDs and videos in the past ten years. His play-along CDs and Gig Book have been the foundation of study and jam sessions for thousands of guitarist worldwide. His current instructional efforts include his Gypsy Jazz JumpStart Online Masterclass series and his Gypsy Jazz Fast Track courses. More information may be obtained at: www.robinnolan.com
